About Gus

Hatched as a herring gull on the beautiful shore of Great Slave Lake in Canada’s Northwest Territories, Gus’ early influences included countless migratory bird species who travel from all over the world to nest along this pristine freshwater shore every spring.  Inspired by their stories about the world, Gus knew early on he would be an explorer and a pioneer.

As Gus matured, he began to recognize the depth of this natural affinity towards a certain non-migratory population - the ravens of his homeland.  Despite initial negative social reaction, Gus has fearlessly forged ahead with his belief that he alone can and will define himself.  He constantly challenges the status quo and identifies with those who share his intellect and values more than those who simply share the colour and shape of his feathers.

Fiercely independent and strong-willed about being the author of his own story, Gus is equally passionate about sharing his experiences and wisdom to help guide and support ostracized and marginalized fledglings everywhere through the universal language of art.

Gus is a master slobber artist with a powerful message taking the world by storm.

All 'Art by Gus' designs are designed wholly by Gus with minimal technical assistance provided by his personal assistant and muse, Annemieke Mulders.

About Slobber Art and Slobberism

In its simplest form, Slobber Art represents original works of art produced by applying drool with artistic purpose to any suitable vertical surface.  The technique has inspired a new movement in the avian art world.

Founded by Gus, Slobberism encompasses more than a new technique and medium.  It is defined by working with the tools and materials at hand (or beak) to express an artist’s self-awareness, shifting notions of identity and the interconnectedness of all living things.  It is anti-establishment at its core and seeks to expose and reject repressive notions of class-specism and species segregation.
